Happy 100th!
Eva Jordan was born Aug. 5, 1920.
Woodrow Wilson was president of the United States. Gasoline was 30 cents a gallon. Movies were black and white - and silent.
The most popular car was the Ford Model T. The No. 1 song was “Swanee” by Al Jolson. A Hershey chocolate bar cost only a few cents.
Family and friends gathered Aug. 5 at Fellowship Manor, where Eva now resides, to mark this significant life event - 10 decades.
Whitehall Mayor Michael P. Harakal Jr. conferred a proclamation to Eva designating Aug. 5, 2020, as Eva Jordan Day in Whitehall Township.
Born in Bethlehem, Eva worked for Lehigh Valley Railroad as a clerk for 30 years. Her lifelong passions were swimming and making her family their favorites - lemon meringue pie and pierogies.
Eva was joined at her party by her two sons, Jim and Tom Jordan, both of Bethlehem, and many of her family. She has three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, a 3-year-old named Leo, who attended the celebration.
Jim and Tom Jordan were allowed to visit in the building, while the rest of the family sat in a courtyard on the other side of windows that allowed Eva to see her loved ones.
Despite the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a celebratory mood in the building and in the outside courtyard.
Before the cake and refreshments were served, all serenaded Eva with the “Happy Birthday” song. She flashed a wide, heartfelt smile.
