Salisbury Township Police Department officers conducted an aggressive driving detail in the township Aug. 3 which resulted in 47 traffic stops and 35 speeding tickets.
Salisbury patrol officer Bryan Losagio said the traffic details took place on South Pike Avenue and Cedar Crest Boulevard using electronic speed timing devices in areas known as chronic speeding hotspots. The details were made possible by state aggressive driving enforcement grants. The grants provide for overtime pay for officers so no township police were taken off regular neighborhood patrols.
In addition to the speeding tickets, the stops yielded three motorists with suspended driver’s licenses, one expired registration and one expired state inspection. One driver stopped was found to have multiple outstanding active arrest warrants.
“Today’s checkered flag drivers of the Salisbury Township 500, who had no regard for anyone’s safety, including their own, were timed at 73 mph and 72 mph respectively, in a posted 40 mph speed zone,” Losagio noted ironically. “For speeds that fast the drivers are awarded a $230 fine and license points and a mandatory PennDot [Pennsylvania Department of Transportation] driver license suspension review hearing,” Losagio said.
“Our goal is to keep our residents safe, as well as anyone passing through our township,” Losagio said. “More aggressive driving details are scheduled in the weeks to come on major roadways in our township. We will also be conducting our community traffic safety details on residential roadways on both sides of the township in the near future.”
