Tossing a no-hitter can a milestone on one’s high school career. For Evan Zwolenik, though, it was more about just being back on the mound and surrounded by his teammates, especially after having his final regular season shut down due to the Coronavirus.
Zwolenik worked 6 2/3 innings and helped lead the Northampton to a 5-0 victory over Pocono Mountain East in the opening game of the Lehigh Valley Baseball Showcase at Nazareth Boro Park Monday.
The recently graduated senior struck out eight and walked three. He left the game with two outs in the top of the seventh due to his pitch count. Cam Fisher recorded the final out for the Kids.
“It was great to be back out with my teammates,” said Zwolenik, who will continue his career at Northampton Community College. “It felt great to wear a Northampton uniform one more time.
“I played really well today and the no-hitter was great. Everything was great, and I was able to locate and control everything. But ultimately, being with my friend and teammates was the best part of the day.”
