Softball tourney day two filled with more action

Eight more teams competed on day two of the Lehigh Valley High School Softball Showcase in eight games played by Bethlehem Catholic, Easton, Notre Dame Green Pond, Pen Argyl, Parkland, Stroudsburg, Northern Lehigh, and Pocono Mountain East on July 15 at the Moore Township Recreational Center.

Becahi lost its first game to Parkland, 7-0, then defeated Easton, 6-3.

“Once we lost the first game, we wanted to end on a high note. It gave us a lot of closure,” said Becahi senior second baseman and right fielder Shylynn Cordero, who had a double. “My bat was really hot that day.”

Easton defeated Stroudsburg, 4-3, but Stroudsburg lost to Parkland, 6-0.

Notre Dame Green Pond defeated Pen Argyl, 3-1, and Pen Argyl tied Pocono Mountain East, 6-6.

Notre Dame also defeated Northern Lehigh, 13-7.

Northern Lehigh won its game against Pocono Mountain East, 3-0.

Winning two games apiece, Notre Dame and Parkland moved on to the semifinals the next day at Coca-Cola Park where all seniors were honored on the field before the tournament final.

“It was good, and it was nice to see all the girls have their last senior night,” Cordero said.
