Dr. Villar publishes vignette

The Scholarship and Practice of Undergraduate Research journal will publish a vignette by Dr. Beatriz Villar, professor of biology at the Monroe Campus of Northampton Community College. She was invited to submit a work from her prospectus, “Developing UREs (Undergraduate Research Experiences) at a Community College Branch Campus: A Collaborative Approach, ” which was accepted June 1.

The vignette is a result of work by Villar, Dr. John Leiser (biology and environmental science), Dr. Danielle Ringhoff (chemistry) and Jacalyn Speicher (biology) to encourage the development of student research experiences. Villar and Ringhoff are creating a strategic plan to establish long-term undergraduate research experiences. The team intends that the vignette will show other community colleges how NCC has worked to create undergraduate research opportunities and the different types of support these community colleges will need.

Prospective student virtual event Aug. 5

Penn State Lehigh Valley is inviting all high school, transfer, adult, and veteran prospective students and their families to a virtual event from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 5. “Spend a Summer Evening” and learn about the Penn State admissions process, financial aid timeline and the more than 275 degree options that are available.
