Coplay: St. John’s plans at-home VBS

St. John’s Lutheran Church is planning a special Vacation Bible School program this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Gail Yudt, VBS superintendent, the church is planning to do an at-home VBS program.

“Since we can’t have fun together, the VBS staff is packing up the fun and delivering it to our students’ homes,” she said. “All the material about how we should trust in the Lord is being packed up for a great week of learning - Bible stories, songs, crafts, snacks and more! We look forward to being able to have a great VBS next year, inviting all of our community children.”

Coplay Recreation and Welfare Association will have its food bank open 8:30-10 a.m. the second Tuesday of each month in the basement of the borough hall, 98 S. Fourth St.

With no food drives expected to be held in the near future, the association is asking the public to drop off canned and boxed food in the lobby of the borough hall, which now has access for residents.

Unlike other communities seeing a spike in a number of clients, Rick Hess said there are approximately 24 families on its rolls, much like what was the case before the virus.
