William R. Laudenslager
William R. “Bill” Laudenslager, 76, of Allentown, died June 25, 2020, in Phoebe Home, Allentown.
He and his wife, Alberta V. (Furlong) Laudenslager, were married 55 years on April 24.
Born Aug. 15, 1943, in Quakertown, Bucks County, he was the son of the late James R. and Marian P. (Crouthamel) Laudenslager.
He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War era.
A supervisor at Mack Trucks Inc., Macungie, for 38 years, he retired in 2011.
He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Orefield, and a 4th Degree member of The Knights of Columbus, Council 10921.
In 2015, he received the Knight of the Year Award.
He loved to travel and he and his wife traveled extensively throughout Europe before his illness.
Their favorite travels though were with their six grandchildren. They would all load into his van and take off for an excursion - no parents allowed.
An amazing woodworker, he took great pleasure in finding an old treasure and making it new again.
He was known on the antique trail as “Dollar” Bill. He will be greatly missed by all who had the distinct pleasure of knowing and loving him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children William P. Laudenslager (Bonnie) of Orefield, Heather A. O’Brien (Christopher) of Macungie; brothers Ronald J. Laudenslager (Gail) of Wisconsin, Gerald W. Laudenslager of Arizona; grandchildren Logan, Cameron and Reagan Laudenslager, Taylor, Andrew and Katherine O’Brien; nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by his nephew, Deacon Ryan Furlong. It was one of his greatest desires to be at Ryan’s ordination to the priesthood later this summer.
He will be there in attendance, looking down from Heaven.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. July 2 at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 1879 Applewood Drive, Orefield, with the Rev. Msgr. Robert J. Wargo and the Rev. Msgr. Joseph P.T. Smith serving as co-celebrants.
A viewing will precede the Mass 9:30 a.m. to 10:50 a.m.
Come with a mask and follow social distancing guidelines. Interment with military honors will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery, Emmaus.
