SALISBURY TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

The Salisbury Township Municipal Building, 2900 S. Pike Ave., is open for business.

But don’t go rushing there right away. Appointments are recommended.

“We are welcoming visitors to the building, but we are hoping that we can make appointments,” Salisbury Township Manager Cathy Bonaskiewich said at the June 25 board of commissioners Zoom meeting.

Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Bonaskiewich said access to office areas inside the building is limited.

Protocols of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Pennsylvania Department of Health and Lehigh County are being followed.

Township offices closed to the public March 17 in an attempt to mitigate the community spread of the coronavirus. They reopened June 29.

“Township Treasurer Linda Minger will be keeping her office closed for the rest of the year,” Bonaskiewich said. “She will have a few sitting dates.” The dates for appointments in Minger’s office are to be announced.

The Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners is next scheduled to meet 7 p.m. July 9 and 23, via Zoom.

The Salisbury Township Zoning Hearing Board will meet 7 p.m. July 7, at the Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company station, 3425 Eisenhower Ave.

The meeting will be held in the garage bays of the firehouse with the doors open. The public is asked to wear face masks, maintain social-distancing protocol and bring their own seating.

Zoners are scheduled to hear two appeals:

•608 E. Montgomery St. - Appeal of an enforcement notice against Bruce and Bonnie Morris to maintain an existing carport, located in the R4, Medium Density Residential Zoning District. In the alternate, the appellant requests a variance to maintain the existing carport with insufficient side-yard setbacks (6 feet required, 2 feet exists).

•321 E. Emmaus Ave., Rear - Appeal of Julius Ewungkem as Sweet Sensation Homes, Inc. for a special exception to convert a vacant medical office into a single-family dwelling with a change of one nonconforming use to another nonconforming use permitted only by special exception, located within the R4, Medium Density Residential Zoning District. In the alternate, the appellant requests a variance to convert an existing building into an increased number of dwelling units (use not permitted).

The Salisbury Township Planning Commission will meet 7:30 p.m. July 14 in the municipal building.

The Salisbury Township Environmental Advisory Council will meet 7 p.m. July 15 in the municipal building.

The Salisbury Township Recreational Advisory Committee will meet 7:30 p.m. July 20 in the municipal building.

Salisbury Township Director of Public Works John Andreas said the June schedule at the township drop-off centers would be extended, with alternating weeks continuing through July. The facilities are closed July 3 and 4.

In the yellow phase, as of June 5, township park facilities for tennis, basketball, soccer, baseball and pickleball reopened for use by local residents only. No team practice or organized games are permitted. Soccer and ball field reservation requests for organized play are suspended.

Playground facilities and restrooms are closed. The township is accepting park pavilion reservations. Township park facilities use is being revaluated for the green phase.

Salisbury Township Chief of Police Kevin Soberick, in his June 25 report to commissioners, said,

“As we’re coming out of the COVID, we’re continuing our traffic enforcement. We’ll be in various areas of the township.”
