Recreation commission meets at pavilion

After canceling several meetings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Northwestern Recreation Commission met June 24 at the pavilion at the community park fields.

In March, the annual spring walk around was canceled due to rain.

The plumbing was turned on and the AED was returned to the fields since the danger of freezing was past.

Because there were no spring sports, the annual purchase of infield mix was not needed.

In April, the Northwestern Lehigh School District physical education day request for use was approved by the recreation commission.

A bus evacuation day was approved for the fall. The volleyball winch was scheduled for oiling. In May, the fields were aerated.

Treasurer’s reports were approved for Jan. 29 through June 24.

During the June meeting, a request for a picnic at the Lions Pavilion was approved for Lucy Reichard between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 18.

The physical education field days for Weisenberg for use of the fields are May 11, 18 and 25, with rain dates for May 14, 21 and 27, all in 2021.

The Slatedale Lions Club facilities’ request for use of the pavilion and restrooms were scheduled for July 7, 21, and Aug. 4 and 18.

Kathy Hermany, chairwoman of Night in the Country Committee, reported the 2020 event has been canceled.

Jim Hughes reported everything is OK for field maintenance.

A hot water heater will be purchased for the concession building from Everett Plumbing for $1,066.23.

There was discussion about adding trees or benches to the park, if community members, who would receive recognition, will donate the cost.
