Community welcomes Elke home from CHOP

The parking lot at Springhouse Middle School was filled with vehicles, police cars and fire engines on May 23.

Drivers were lining up for a parade to drive by Elke Lindenmuth’s house.

Elke had just been released from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where she had been a patient for 11 weeks, since the beginning of April.

Elke, a student at Parkway Manor Elementary, is now finally home.

Although she will be visiting CHOP for her autoimmune deficiency, she also will be recuperating at home.

Elke was waiting in front of her house as the parade passed by along Highland Street.

Mom Terri, dad Jeff, grandparents, Leroy and Theresa Shankweiler, and her twin brothers were all awaiting the parade, too.

She didn’t realize how many of her friends, family and teachers and neighbors would be passing by to wish her well.

Her parents had her house decorated with a balloon sculpture.

Many of the vehicles stopped and the passengers presented her with gifts and food.

Neighbors also stopped by, bringing cakes or trays of perogies.
