A 32-year-old Allentown man was killed when the Freightliner he was operating veered off the roadway, went down an embankment and rolled over around 3:24 a.m. June 30 on I-78, Weisenberg Township.
According to Lehigh County Coroner Eric Minnich, Eddy Joel Surinach was pronounced dead by Lehigh County Deputy Coroner Cassandra Schiffner 4:21 a.m. the same day at the scene.
Minnich said the cause of Surinach’s death is multiple blunt force injuries due to a motor vehicle accident.
He ruled the manner of his death an accident.
According to Trooper First Class Nathan T. Branosky, community service officer|public information officer with State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, troopers responded to the area of New Smithville Road and Old Route 22 where it was determined a commercial motor vehicle traveling on I-78 had traveled off the interstate and onto New Smithville Road.
The bobtail Freightliner which had been traveling west on I-78 came to final rest upside down.
Weisenberg and Upper Macungie Township fire departments, along with Cetronia Ambulance Corps and Yocum Towing assisted at the scene.
