John D. Matis, of Whitehall, died June 13, 2020, at Lehigh Valley Hospital.

He was a son of the late John and Teresa (Kerbacher) Matis.

He was in the U.S. Navy and was a Vietnam War veteran.

He was self-employed for many years in California.

He spent many years enjoying the musical heritage and friendships at the Coplay Saengerbund.

He is survived by two sisters, Sylvia De Luca of Lititz and Lori Verzino of Aquashicola; a partner, Marge Billheimer of Allentown; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and close friends.

He was predeceased by a brother, Gregory Matis of Bethlehem.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
