MACUNGIE BOROUGH COUNCIL

The controversy surrounding the brick installation during the Streetscape project still remains unresolved. At the June 15 Macungie Borough Council meeting, discussion revolved around the Phase III brick installation not completed properly, noting gaps in places especially where the sidewalk curves. Allegedly, the contractor said the project was completed as instructed and it will cost additional money to change the configuration. Council agreed to fix the faulty work with payment leftover from the grant.

Council President John Yerman suggested this should be used as a learning process. Projects should be watched and regular reports should be made.

Bids for Phase IV were received with Mohawk giving the lowest bid. Concern was raised as they were the contractors involved with Phase III. For this phase, they have chosen another contractor. It was approved unanimously by council.

The deadline was extended to July 15 with a unanimous vote for The Estates of Brookside due to the developer’s injury.

Council member Angela Ashbrook is requesting dates for the start and completion of the Americans with Disabilities Act ramps and the rain garden project.

It was recommended a grant be considered for Phase V with no money matched by the borough. The vote was 4-3 in favor of this.

Kathy McNair was chosen to replace Borough Clerk/Assistant Treasurer Rosemarie Nonnemacher who will leave her position July 31. McNair will begin as her replacement June 29.
