LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

A virtual Lower Macungie Board of Commissioners meeting was held May 21.

Township Engineer Bryan McAdam gave a brief update on the Trexler Business Center project which included the Movie Tavern. This project will transition from Keystone Consulting to CKS Engineers. The final input from the developer includes completing public improvements. A resolution to reduce financial security for the Trexler Business Center Land development was approved.

Planning Director Nathan Jones spoke about a proposed building across from the Movie Tavern as part of the Jaindl property. A preconstruction agreement was approved.

A proposal for a business operation noise ordinance was considered. The proposed ordinance applies to businesses with liquor licenses and would have guidelines for outdoor entertainment and dining with hours of operation also to be considered. A resident had filed a complaint against Foundation Tavern. In his discussion of the problem, it was about live entertainment allegedly in excess. The ordinance was approved for advertisement.

A 1997 tractor with flail mowers is being sold through online auction. Township Manager Bruce Beitel will ensure the highest bid is of fair market value. The final sale will be reported to the board. Bids will be rejected if not at fair market value.

Neighboring municipalities are renewing their ongoing cooperation and mutual assistance. The communities noted are Upper Macungie, South Whitehall and North Whitehall townships. This is to reaffirm mutual assistance is supported. Assistance is not to burden the township but can save residents in the long run. This motion will also be presented to these municipalities.

It was suggested certain services would also be included in this agreement including such items as vehicles, materials, services and manpower.

It was suggested since the COVID-19 situation is winding down, it’s time to consider a procedure for the state to reopen.

The recreation department was thanked for their virtual events. A virtual 5K was held recently.

Lower Macungie Board of Commissioners President Ronald W. Beitler and his dad, Commissioner Ron R. Beitler, thanked Smooth On for the contribution of the hand sanitizers which were handed out to elderly citizens.
