Paige Zimmerman Lehigh Valley Academy
Grade: Graduating senior
Family members: Mia (mom), Ted (dad), Kyra (sister)
Favorite subject: I really enjoyed all my subjects but I’d say art is my favorite. It’s a lot of fun to be able to explore different art styles, artists and methods of creating art and then try to replicate what I see or make new connections. It’s a learning process and I enjoy that experimental nature of the subject.
Activities: Some of my favorite activities are biking, riding horses (which I do competitively and as a job), creating art, go-kart and generally anything else that involves exercise and being outside. Though I am not very good at conventional sports such as tennis, basketball, volleyball, etc.
Next steps: I plan on going to college in the Bethlehem area so I can live at home and maintain my current job. I want to keep riding horses and creating art throughout college (maybe do an art minor), then enter the workforce in a financial, business or mathematical field.
Career goals: My goal is a career relating to mathematics in some way, though I am not sure what field. Currently I’m interested in engineering, finance and business.
Heroes: My hero is Laura Graves, an American international dressage rider who is currently the number 4 rider in the entire world rankings. She’s my hero because she and her horse built themselves up from the bottom, they have a great connection, she took every opportunity she had to learn and thus was able to rise in the equestrian world, all without the advantage of monetary ease. She inspires me to be the best that I can.
Hobbies: My hobbies are equestrianism and art. I’ve been riding horse my entire life, and I don’t think I could ever separate myself from the sport. I spend a lot of time drawing and sketching and usually do horse or animal portraits. It’s really fun to connect my passion for art with my passion for the equestrian sport.
Current job(s): I am a ‘working student’ for Olivia Steidle Dressage, a horse training business owned by Olivia Steidle. This means I help out with the barn and horses in exchange for lessons and learning experiences. I also do custom pet portraits, thank you cards, etc.
Volunteer/community work: I do a lot of volunteer work in my local equestrian community. A lot of the competitions are run completely by volunteers. So I like to help the judges, score the rides and more. I also volunteer at some of the bigger shows in the area, such as Dressage at Devon, an international competition.
Likes: I like horses and animals, healthy competition, art, playing the flute and piccolo, being outside and going out to eat (especially Italian food). I also love summer and fall, reading and being around friends and family.
Dislikes: I do not enjoy cold rain, being alone, writer’s and artist’s block, sports like football, hockey, etc., an unfinished or unsatisfying story, romance movies and hot dogs.
Greatest accomplishment (so far): My greatest accomplishment is successfully maintaining distinguished honor roll through every single quarter since the beginning of seventh grade.
Advice for peers: Take every opportunity you can, and try to learn as much as you can! The more experience you get now, the better set up you are for the rest of your life. It is important to be logical in the major decisions you make, but you still should keep in touch with hour hopes and dreams so you know what to strive for.
