Downtown Allentown lights up in honor of Class of 2020

The downtown Allentown business community - led by PPL Corporation and City Center Investment Corp. - will be lighting Allentown’s skyline in school colors nearly every night in June to honor the graduating seniors of the Lehigh Valley’s high schools.

With proms, graduations and other senior-year milestones canceled or postponed this year due to COVID-19, Allentown’s business leaders wanted to shine a light - literally - on students’ achievements.

“Although we can’t celebrate in person this year, we wanted to honor this year’s seniors who are graduating during unprecedented times,” said Vince Sorgi, PPL’s chief executive officer.

“While COVID-19 has disrupted plans, it cannot diminish the accomplishments of our region’s seniors who have left their mark in the classroom, on the stage, on the playing fields and in the hearts of so many proud parents, teachers and loved ones,” Sorgi said. “We wish all of our area’s graduates the best as they embark on the next chapter of their lives. We’re excited about the potential they have to make a difference in this world. Congratulations to all our area high school seniors!”

This month, buildings throughout downtown Allentown - including the PPL Tower Building, Two City Center, Three City Center, Five City Center and Tower Six - will be lit in school colors to honor the 23 high schools in Lehigh and Northampton counties. The lighting schedule begins alphabetically with Allentown Central Catholic High School and ends June 23 with Wilson Area High School.

Nightly photos will be posted on PPL Corporation’s social media channels to honor each school.

The full schedule follows with the school, featured color and lighting date. Allentown Central Catholic High School, Bangor Area High School and Bethlehem Catholic High School were represented June 1 (green), June 2 (red) and June 3 (gold), respectively.
