WESTERN SALISBURY COLUMN

There is new information for the Salisbury High School Class of 2020.

First, caps and gowns are on the way! If they are delivered next week, the student will be emailed a pickup date. If they are delivered during the last week in May, seniors will pick up their cap and gown when they drop off their laptop.

Second, save the date for June 9. On the evening of their original graduation, the Class of 2020 will participate in a senior parade. Seniors will meet at Salisbury Middle School, drive down 31st Street and pull into the South Mall parking lot where family and friends will be gathered to cheer for the seniors.

Salisbury Township police will direct traffic and set up the spectators in a way for all to see the parade. Seniors may drive themselves or have a family member drive them so they have free hands to wave at the crowd. Don’t forget to decorate your car!

Third, diplomas will be handed out June 9, 10 and 11 because some students will need them before the graduation date of July 22. Students will wear their cap and gown and a photographer will be on hand to take a picture of each senior.

Last, an in-person graduation is still being planned for July 22 if health guidelines allow. Different venues are being investigated to allow for social distancing.

Plans are not final yet, schedules are still being planned and information will be relayed to parents and students through school email as soon as possible.

In other news, the Salisbury Township 2020 summer playground program is cancelled due to COVID-19.

Because of the Memorial Day holiday, curbside pickup of the to-go lunches will be moved from May 25 to May 26. The last week to pick up to-go lunches will be June 1 and 4. Curbside pickup is at either Salisbury Middle School or Harry S Truman Elementary School 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
