The Salisbury Township Police Department is coping with the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his report to commissioners at the May 14 township meeting, Salisbury Township Chief of Police Kevin J. Soberick noted changes have been made in department operations.

“We came up with an alternative schedule to handle our call volume. Thank God, throughout all this, although we were exposed, no one got sick. We used our PPE [Personal Protection Equipment]. We got the cars sanitized.

“Even though our call volume was down, we handled some pretty serious situations.

“They’ve been doing a terrific job during trying times. No one provided a playbook for a pandemic.”

Soberick noted “Police Memorial Week” was the week of May 10 and “Police Memorial Day” was May 15.

Because of the pandemic, the Salisbury Police Department is continuing measures, initiated March 17, to safeguard officers and staff and enable them to continue to serve residents.

The department is following recommended practices, including social distancing.

Also, until further notice:

•The township police station is closed to the public.

•The filing of non-emergency reports is done by telephone by calling the police station, 610-797-1447; Lehigh County Dispatch, 610-437-5252 or by emailing covid19call@salisburypolice.org.

• Officers may ask residents to step outside to speak with them.

• Emergency response is not affected. Continue to call 911.
