Salisbury Township public works department employees are being lauded for helping to reopen township recycling centers.

“I would like to thank public works for opening up the waste sites. People have been bugging me about it, including my wife,” Commissioner Rodney Conn said at the May 14 township meeting.

“It’s actually working very well, having public works employees on-site because they have the equipment to move the materials and make space,” Salisbury Township Manager Cathy Bonaskiewich said.

“I was at Devonshire and it looked very good. And the nice young man from public works who was there was doing a good job,” Conn said.

The Franko and Devonshire drop-off sites reopened May 4.

The drop-off sites are open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, on alternating weeks, in May.

Franko is open the week of May 18. Devonshire is open the week of May 26. The schedule will be re-evaluated.

A public works’ employee is stationed at the entrance gate. Residents must show proof of township residency. A most recent utility bill is recommended. Addresses will be logged.

Face masks are required to be worn to enter the site.

To maintain social distancing, there will be no physical interaction between township staff and the public. Residents must unload materials and empty containers. Residents must take bags and containers for transportation of materials with them.

Three vehicles are allowed on-site at any given time. After a vehicle exits, another vehicle is allowed into the site.

No landscapers or other non-residential users are allowed. Materials are checked to ensure materials are not contaminated with other waste. Contaminated materials will not be allowed to be disposed of at the sites.
