A few weeks ago, Salisbury High School Principal Heather Morningstar and the Class of 2020 advisors, English teacher Kelly Butterbaugh and science teacher Susan Wilson got together to discuss ways to let the senior class know that even though they are not walking the halls of SHS, their teachers and principals are still thinking of them.

As they brainstormed ideas on how to celebrate this class while being socially distant, they decided on the idea of putting a yard sign on the lawn of every senior in the Class of 2020, congratulating them on a job well done.

The signs were ordered from W-Graphics Digital Services, Inc. located in Easton, and delivered in just a few days.

After getting the addresses of all the seniors, Butterbaugh, who is a SHS alumni, used her knowledge of the Salisbury community to divide the township into sections. They then recruited 20-25 SHS staff to distribute the signs and place them in the yards of the seniors.

“It was a really positive experience for students and staff alike,” Morningstar said. “As much as the kids needed that, I think the staff did too.”

Teachers said sometimes people don’t realize how connected teachers are to their students. They get used to seeing the students everyday and interacting with them and right now they feel like they were robbed of the last few months with this senior class.

By the looks on the faces of the SHS students, the yard signs brightened the day of the Class of 2020.
