Three crashes in two hours; one person has died

Whitehall Township police responded to three vehicle accidents in a span of two hours May 18. One person has died, according to the police report, and multiple people were transported to area hospitals for treatment of injuries.

The first crash occurred 2:20 p.m. at MacArthur Road and American Street. Two vehicles were involved, according to a report released by Lt. Gregory Bealer, one traveling south on MacArthur Road and the other traveling east on American Street. Two people were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill.

Bealer said one person died at the hospital.

The second crash, which involved a township police patrol vehicle, took place 3:40 p.m., also at MacArthur Road and American Street. According to the report, the police vehicle was crossing MacArthur Road westbound at American Street and collided with a vehicle heading northbound on MacArthur Road.

The police officer was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest and has since been released. An occupant in the other vehicle later complained of an injury, according to the report, and was taken to an unknown hospital.

The third accident happened 4:18 p.m. at South Church and West Columbia streets. Bealer said two vehicles, one traveling south on South Church Street and the other west on West Columbia Street, collided. The vehicle on West Columbia Street rolled onto its roof, trapping the two occupants, according to the report.

Four people from this collision were transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, police said.

Assisting Whitehall police at the scenes of the crashes were Whitehall Fire Department, Whitehall Fire Police and Cetronia Ambulance Corps.

These accidents remained under investigation, as of press time. No other information was available.
