Upper Macungie Township Police Chief Edgardo A. Colón has announced his retirement effective May 22 after eight years of service.
Colón, the department’s first chief, was appointed April 5, 2012, as reported in the April 12, 2012, edition of the Parkland Press.
His official start date was Aug. 20, 2012.
Before becoming chief and creating the police department, which was established Jan. 1, 2013, Colón served with the Pennsylvania State Police for 21 years.
He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1984 and received an honorable discharge in 1988.
Colón then graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in 1991.
He retired from the state police as a lieutenant and commander of the Troop M, Fogelsville station.
