Two locals head to ship
Shippensburg University women’s soccer head coach Rob Fulton announced the recruitment of nine student-athletes who have each agreed to attend the university and will suit up for the Raider program when preseason camp is scheduled to get underway in August 2020.
These players have signed either national letters of intent (NLIs) or institutional letters expressing their desire to play soccer at Shippensburg. This year’s recruiting class features seven players from Pennsylvania, one from Maryland and one from Ohio.
A couple of local players include:
Abbi Czarnecki, Freshman Forward, Walnutport/Northampton: Czarnecki totaled four varsity letters for the Konkrete Kids under head coach Michael Missmer … competed at the club level with Lehigh Valley United under coach Manny Oudin … led her team in scoring all four seasons … received numerous postseason awards as a senior, including spots on the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference (EPC) First Team … totaled 18 goals and 14 assists as a senior after a 17-goal, 11-assist campaign as a junior … Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Star of the Week … was a member of the National Honors Society with a 4.2 GPA … also earned four varsity letters in track and field. She is the daughter of Brian and Melissa Czarnecki… has three brothers, Jake, Carson and Chase.
Sofia Pittas, Freshman Defense, Whitehall/Whitehall: Pittas totaled four varsity letters for the Zephs under head coach Chris Bleam … competed at the club level with Lehigh Valley United under coach Manny Oudin … named an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference (EPC) Second Team All-Star as a sophomore and senior … recognized as a Soccer Scholar-Athlete … scored nine career goals … contributed to three State Cup Championships at the club level … was a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, English National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta … ranked in the Top-5 percent of her graduating class with a 4.3 GPA. Pittas is the daughter of Nick and Melissa Pittas … has a sister, Kristina.
