The Parkland Education Foundation wanted to do something special for the 800 graduating seniors this year.
With the possibility there would not be a formal graduation ceremony or a senior prom due to the coronavirus pandemic and quarantine, the education foundation partnered with the high school to purchase graduation lawn signs for all the seniors.
Executive Director Lisa Ervin and the board wanted to show the seniors how the community supports them and to recognize their accomplishments.
Volunteers, including teachers, administrators, education foundation board members and South Whitehall police met at the high school May 7 to pick up the signs and then distribute them to the yards of seniors.
The 40 who signed up to distribute the signs received approximately 20 signs to deliver.
Ervin and her team organized the routes for the volunteers to be in their neighborhood.
Volunteers placed the signs and stakes in the backs of the vehicles parked in the front of the high school.
They were given the signs and a list of names and addresses.
Delivery to the Class of 2020 seniors was completed by May 9.
