Coplay: Governor extends lockdown to June 4

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf recently extended the lockdown order until June 4.

The continued shutdown includes, but is not limited to, the library, tot lot, Coplay Parkway, aerobic classes and the fitness center in borough hall.

St. John’s Lutheran Church has canceled its annual music Sunday event, which was set for May 17, because of the coronavirus.

The church is also deciding whether its pork and sauerkraut dinner will be held May 30. The dinner had been originally scheduled earlier in the month.

Coplay Police Department reported 52 parking citations were issued to residents who did not move their vehicles for street sweeping May 7 and 8. Police Chief Vincent Genovese said there was sufficient notice provided; signs with red lettering detailing the parking restrictions were posted two days ahead of the sweeping.

No vehicles were towed. The traffic citations impose $15 fines.

St. Peter Roman Catholic Church’s annual May procession and service for Mary was canceled because of COVID-19.

The program was to be held at the brick enclave structure outside the church, which houses the statue of Mary. A glass window fronts the structure, which is lighted.
