Coplay: Church plans May 30 community dinner

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St., plans to hold a community dinner 4-6:30 p.m. May 30 at the church hall.

The menu features pork and sauerkraut with all the trimmings.

The dinner is open to the public.

American flags will be going up on light poles along Chestnut and Second streets to commemorate the May 25 Memorial Day holiday.

A citizens committee held a fundraising campaign that paid for the purchase of flags, a tribute to residents from the borough who served during wartime and paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives.

The flags will remain up for the Independence Day holiday in July, Labor Day in September and Veterans Day in November.

Stanley W. Reinhard Jr. American Legion Post 426 will decide over the next few days whether to hold its annual Memorial Day program, or an abbreviated version, resulting from the coronavirus guidelines.
