The weekend is notoriously put on reserve for rest and relaxation. We’d seek solitude in the mornings and rage in the evenings to grasp a glimpse of what life is all about.

With the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping our streets, the community has begun innovating new ways to maintain connectedness while remaining safe at home.

Lehigh Valley DJ Freddie Frederick Jr. keeps the crowd fed by broadcasting jams on Facebook Live from his basement. Frederick, who is the successor of Lehigh Valley legend Frantic Freddie, has been mixing sets for more than 35 years.

He began hosting live parties when his weekly crowd at Bar With No Name, 300 Gateway Drive, Bethlehem, admitted to missing the DJ during their time of isolation.

The first live event received an overwhelming response that gathered people from all over, including areas such as Orlando, Fla. and Wisconsin. Viewers are now calling this act “the basement with no name.”

Frederick said, “Dancing gives [viewers] a chance to relieve the stress and forget about the news for a while.”

Viewers have been seen chatting in the comments expressing their gratitude.

Kandi Fenstermaker Moyer said, “You are making our night! Thank you!”

Kristine Doherty Kachline said, “Dancing now - can’t help it!”

Frederick vows to continue the live events until Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf lifts the stay-at-home order.

“Music is medicine, and everybody needs to keep dancing,” Frederick said.

He will be performing weekends with various live shows like Friday family fun night, 7-10 p.m., with old-school disco starting after; Saturday dance party, 8 p.m. and Sunday sock hop, 6-10 p.m., with music ranging from the 1950s to the 1980s.

Claim some control over these strange days by dancing along with Frederick.

“I hope to see everyone on a real dance floor really soon,” Frederick said.
