LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Q. Who are the members of your family: parents, siblings and pets?

A. My family consists of my dad, mom, sister, dog Elsie and cat Li Ling.

Q. What have you most enjoyed about being a senior at Emmaus High School?

A. As the upperclassmen had done for me when I was a freshman, I feel like, as a senior, I was able to facilitate the underclassmen’s involvement in club events and help them feel like they were a part of said events. I also feel like I’ve had a more active role in decision making and functions to the clubs and activities I had taken part of this year.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject was AP psychology as I had taken it my junior year. I loved it because I was always interested in helping people in some way, whether it be through law or therapy. After my first couple days in the class I immediately fell in love with the content and even went to a psychology camp over the summer at Gettysburg College. Since the first day to now, it never ceases to amaze me, figuring out how and why people act the way they do and learning more about the conscious and unconscious mind.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. This past year I had the honor of ranking 11th place for alto 2s in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District Choir competition and was nominated to attend the Multicultural Student Leadership Conference. Throughout the rest of my academic career I have received the Academic Excellence Award (3), Drivers Education Award (1) and the World Language Award for French (2). I have also had the privilege of earning membership in National Honor Society, the International Thespian Society, the Tri-M Music Honor Society and the National French Honor Society.

Q. What are your favorite extracurricular activities?

A. My favorite extracurricular activities include singing with my friends, whether it be for school or our own pleasure. I love to dance for our musical “Hello Dolly” and find it very stress relieving to stretch and do yoga. I also find peace in playing classical to Broadway pieces on the piano and it’s very easy to say my life is influenced by art in every single way. I also enjoy taking the initiative within the Emmaus community, being the president of the EHS activism club. This year we’ve led so many amazing events such as helping the Wildlands Conservancy in Emmaus, the Emmaus Public Library, partnering with the Girl Up club to collect items donated to the Turning Point Lehigh Valley and hosting a meet and greet with a representative from the Lehigh County Courthouse to discuss the voting process as well as a chance to use one of the newly instituted voting machines. The activism club has been one of my favorite clubs to be a part of as we have so many amazing members and ideas that can help our local community and fellow peers.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. After high school, I plan on attending Dickinson College to pursue a degree in psychology as well as study abroad in France. I hope to start in psychological research and then hopefully join a practice or start my own private practice.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. I think my biggest challenge to date is juggling my time and maintaining stress levels with all of the extracurriculars and academics I take part in. However, thanks to the support of my family and friends, I haven’t had to stress as much because I know that I’m not in it alone.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I think I’d want my teachers to remember me as a student who worked hard to obtain personal and academic goals. I’d want my friends to remember me as someone who they can reach out to no matter where they are or what they’re doing and my peers to remember me as someone they could rely on to help them finish projects and open up to for advice.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. One person I’ve always admired is my AP psychology teacher Mrs. Walsh. She’s helped me in more ways than I can count to help me grow as a person. The kindness and support she’s always shown to not only me, but my peers as well has inspired me to become a friend and person just like her.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. I don’t have much advice to give to my peers; everyone has been amazing to get to know whether it be through classes or clubs and have made my whole academic career one to remember. You all have the kindest hearts and the brightest minds, so never give up on pursuing your goals because I know all of you will achieve amazing things!
