Celebrating a special day with a birthday parade

While driving north on Springhouse Road during the afternoon of April 21, this reporter noticed a line of vehicles, each decorated with balloons and “Happy Birthday” signs.

The individuals in the front seat of the first vehicle, a black truck, said the line was the beginning of a birthday parade for Tom Carrigan’s 70th birthday.

Inside the first vehicle were Tom’s daughter Jennifer, and son-in-law Sean Bleiler.

Grandchildren Jackson, Evynne and Tori Bleiler were in the back seat.

The truck was decorated with signs and balloons, and in the back of the truck was a drawing of a baseball diamond.

There were about a dozen vehicles bringing up the rear of the parade.

Tom was standing in front of the house waving to the parade as it passed by on Dartmouth Street.

After the first pass of the friends and family parade, a second pass was made.

The family truck stopped in front of the birthday celebrant, with the three grandchildren inside.

All the other vehicles stopped, too.

Grandson Jackson got out of the truck and with his guitar and a chair set up by his father, Sean, in the bed of the truck, played “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”

When the song was completed, small packs of peanuts were thrown to birthday boy Tom.

What a creative way to celebrate with loved ones during this time of social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
