BREAKING NEWS: Water Main Break South Whitehall residents could see pressure problems

Lehigh County Authority crews have responded to a large water main break at 17th and Walnut streets, Allentown.

Residents reported water pressure problems to LCA beginning at approximately 12:30 p.m. today, and localized street flooding is occurring in the vicinity of the break.

The water main is a 30-inch diameter high-pressure water line that serves water storage and pumping facilities in portions of the City and surrounding communities, including South Whitehall. Widespread pressure fluctuations are expected.

LCA crews are on the scene to control the leakage of water in this part of the system so they can begin assessing damage and developing a plan for the repair.

Residents are advised to stop using water if possible and avoid the area as significant traffic disruptions are expected due to street flooding and repair work.

Customers who are experiencing low pressure or cloudy water are asked to avoid calling LCA at this time due to very high call volume.

The cause of the break is unknown at this time. LCA crews will be on the scene until the situation is under control.

Additional updates will be posted on LCA’s website at lehighcountyauthority.org as well as on their social media sites on Facebook and Twitter.
