STUDENT PROFILE - Abigail Roberts, Bethlehem Catholic HS - Coordinated by Julie Swan
Grade: 12
Family members: Mom, little sister, three dogs
Favorite subject: English is my favorite subject, as I love being able to express myself and share my ideas through writing. I also enjoy biology. I just think the science of life is so fascinating and I enjoy knowing about what keeps the world going.
Activities: I take part in theater, tennis, Scholastic Scrimmage, Science Olympiad, Knitting/Crocheting Club, German Club and Art Club.
Next steps: I plan to attend a four-year university for a bachelor’s in English, and later possibly pursue a master’s or doctorate degree. I hope to one day find someone to settle down with and maybe start a family, but I’d like to do some traveling first.
Career goals: For my career, I hope to either teach English at the collegiate level or to enter the field of editing/publishing.
Heroes: Maya Angelou’s stories, plays and poetry are just so powerful, and the number of works she created and/or was a part of never cease to amaze me. My mother is also one of my heroes. She is such a pillar of strength in my life, I don’t know where I would be without her. I feel as though I can tell her everything; she really is one of my best friends. Lastly, Sean Hartman is one of my personal heroes. He has been my play director for the past four years and taught me almost everything I know about acting, and he has helped me to grow as an actress and as a person.
Hobbies: Watching Netflix, knitting and crocheting, spending days out with friends, going for walks, reading and writing, drawing, making bad puns
Current job(s): I work part-time as a bookseller at Barnes and Noble.
Volunteer/community work: I do church volunteer work, as well as altar serving at my parish.
Likes: Pizza, sushi, dogs, Harry Potter, the MCU, nature, the beach/ocean, rock music, sunsets, flowers, calligraphy
Dislikes: Grape cough syrup, “reality” television, people who walk too slowly on the sidewalk in front of me, needles, the sound of nails on a chalkboard, improper grammar/misspellings
Greatest accomplishment (so far): So far, I’d say my greatest accomplishment has been solving a Rubik’s Cube in one day.
Advice for peers: I would tell my peers, especially those younger than me, to not get caught up in the drama of high school, and to just live your life as best you can. High school goes by fast, so make the most of it. I’d advise them to try activities they normally wouldn’t because you never know what you’ll get out of trying something new. Lastly, I’d say to leave room in your schedule for the things and people that matter most to you.
Student profile subjects are selected by faculty and administration at the individual schools.
