FALCON INSIDER
Although schools are officially closed for the rest of the year, Salisbury students continue their education with remote learning. Every week teachers post assignments on their Google Classrooms and students have until 5 p.m. the following Sunday to complete the assignments. These assignments not only count toward the high schooler’s grade but completion of the assignment also shows the student was “in attendance” for the week.
Along with these assignments, many teachers also host weekly Zoom meetings. This is an opportunity for students to connect with their peers, ask questions and potentially listen to a lecture.
Classes aren’t the only thing changing. Many high school students who are enrolled in an AP course were planning on taking the AP exam this spring. This exam is an opportunity for students to earn college credit, depending on the institution, while in high school. These tests are usually taken over a 4-hour time period in which the students answer multiple choice questions and write essays or short responses.
However, this year, the College Board has had to reevaluate. Now students will be taking 45-minute online tests at home in which they will write a written response. Depending on the test, this can consist of one long essay or multiple short answer questions. Many institutions have confirmed that despite the recent changes, they will still accept the credits, but students should still check in with their top institutions.
Finally, while some extracurricular activities have been placed on hold, other activities are now occurring virtually. Every year Salisbury High School’s No Place For Hate club celebrates A Day Without Hate, which this year is April 24. Although students cannot be together to enjoy the festivities, all students and community members are encouraged to participate in the virtual SHS NPFH Kindness Bingo Board. Unlike a traditional game of bingo, this board asks participants to cross off activities they have completed. Some of these activities include “make someone laugh” or “check in with someone you haven’t talked to in a while.” The bingo board can be accessed on Salisbury’s social media page.
Stay healthy and stay safe, Salisbury!
