Due to the COVID-19 stay-at-home order, plans may change for the Memorial Day Parade, organized by the Emmaus Veterans Committee, scheduled to begin 9 a.m. May 25. An announcement about the parade and ceremony will be made in May. The parade starts at Emmaus High School and follows the route of Chestnut Street to the Fourth Street Memorial Triangle where a program is held.

The veterans’ brick installation ceremony is scheduled 10 a.m. May 23 at the Remembrance Garden, 164 E. Main St. Enter at the Cintas building driveway and follow the garden signs. For information, email remgarden1@tmail.com or emmausremembers.org.

The Emmaus Historical Society sends a message that the members hope everyone in our community is safe and healthy.

At this time the museum, 218 E. Main St., remains closed until further notice. The society has also postponed the April and May membership meetings and the June 6 bus trip to the Museum of the American Revolution. Also, due to the amount of work necessary to prepare for the Emmaus’ May community yard sale, the society will cancel its participation in the May sale and hopes to participate in the fall Emmaus community yard sale. For information on the Emmaus Historical Society, visit https//www.emmaushistoric.pa.org or call 610-966-6592.

Reminder: The primary election was postponed until June 2.

Earth Day 2020 community cleanup was postponed until Nov. 21.

Police Week is May 10 through 16; Emergency Management Services Week is May 17 through 23 and Public Works Department Week is May 17 through 23. Although I don’t have any information regarding celebrations to honor these community service employees, this is a good time to say thank you to members of these groups, especially since many of them are working through the COVID-19 pandemic to help keep us safe. Also, a big thank you to the medical community for their services throughout this trying time.

The deadline for submitting items for the June column is May 20. Send to 913 Little Lehigh Dr., email durdock@aol.com or call 610-967-2661. Best wishes for mothers everywhere on this Mother’s Day.
