Following the state-mandated closure of Pennsylvania schools through the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year, Whitehall High School announced the cancellation of its spring musical, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.”
According to a post on the Whitehall High School Theatre Facebook page, the cancellation is due to recent concerns for the health and safety of the community due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the theater club’s Facebook page, they shared the headshots of the seniors to honor their hard work. They posted the photos April 2, on what would have been the show’s opening night.
At the time, they noted they were still planning on postponing the show and rescheduling it for later in the school year.
To help keep hope and spirits high, they posted a video April 6 of several of the students singing one of the songs from the show, “Ten Minutes Ago.”
The students were recorded singing the song virtually from the safety of their own homes.
The Facebook post announcing the cancellation is asking those who already purchased tickets to consider donating their ticket purchase to the organization. The theater group relies on ticket sales to fund future productions, and the cancellation of this year’s show will dramatically impact next year’s show.
For anyone who purchased tickets and wants to assist the program, no further action is necessary, according to the Facebook post.
Anyone who bought tickets and desires a refund is asked to email tickets@showtix4u.com.
“Thank you again for your patience and continued support of our program,” a representative for the group wrote on the Facebook post. “We look forward to seeing you next year!”
