Coplay Saengerbund crowns Kroboth as Queen for the Day

The coronation of a king and queen is an inspiring occasion and nonetheless for when Coplay Saengerbund crowns a queen.

Aggie Kroboth, 88, of Coplay, was honored as Queen for the Day March 8 in recognition of her retirement as the club’s vice president for more than 30 years.

Those who attended the event agreed Kroboth should be crowned queen for “all days ending with a Y.”

The day chosen for the crowning event was fitting since her son Joe, who has a polka band, was expected to perform at the Saengerbund that evening.

Club President Kevin Fritz presented Kroboth with a certificate citing her accomplishments and a bouquet of red roses. Fritz said, for years, it was Kroboth who was responsible for honoring the club’s king and queen of the valentine dance.

Kroboth’s history with the club goes back six decades when she attended a polka dance at the club and met her husband, Joseph, who was one of the bartenders. A friendship formed, then a romance flourished and soon, they were married and raised two sons and a daughter.

Kroboth has been more than just an officer with the club’s board of directors; she has also been a vital link in the club’s kitchen, preparing dinners and comfort food over the years for the patrons coming to the Sunday polka dances. In recent years, Kroboth has been taking food orders and was cashier for the Sunday dances. She has also provided her expertise for authentic ethnic Austrian food at dinners organized by the club’s heritage committee.

As the large crowd gave Kroboth a round of applause in the ballroom, the ovation spilled into other areas of the club where they showed their appreciation for the woman whose legacy at Coplay Saengerbund will be remembered.

Kroboth noted she will certainly be present for events and dances. She added she won’t forget to visit the kitchen.
