Life in Weimar Germany is in the spotlight with “Cabaret,” at 7 p.m. April 23, 24, and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. April 25, auditorium, Dieruff High School, 815 N. Irving St., Allentown.
“Cabaret,” based on John Van Druten’s 1951 play “I Am a Camera,” which was adapted from Christopher Isherwood’s 1939 novel, “Goodbye to Berlin,” has music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and book by Joe Masteroff.
Dieruff director-producer Sarah Pastelyak is assisted by assistant director Nicholas Conti, choreographer Joanellyn Schubert, vocal director Jennifer Dodd, set designer and stage manager Deborah Hamburger and assistant producer and set foreman Donald Hinkle.
The original 1966 Broadway musical received 11 Tony Award nominations, winning eight Tonys. The 1987 Broadway revival received four Tony nominations. The 1998 Broadway revival received 10 Tony Awards, winning four Tonys. The 2014 Broadway revival received two Tony nominations.
