LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

EASTERN SALISBURY COLUMN

I hope that everyone had a safe and happy Easter, quarantine style.

Last week, we all received the devastating news our children will not physically return to their schools until the fall. This has led to many heartbreaking realities for many. I hope that we are all doing what we can to stay safe, keeping our distance and having as much “normalcy” as possible right now.

The April meetings for the Salisbury Township School Board will now be held via Zoom.

The operations committee meeting will be held 7 p.m. April 22 and the curriculum and technology meeting will be held 7 p.m. April 27. If you are interested in viewing or participating, you will need to register for these meetings. Registration links will be posted on the school district website and social media 48 hours before the meeting. Upon registration, you will receive the meeting login information.

As of this date, the following event has been rescheduled. Eastern Salisbury Fire Department will host a PPL Live Line Electrical Safety Exhibit 6:30 p.m. July 13. The event will be held at Harry S Truman Elementary School with a rain location of Eastern Salisbury Fire Department.

The exhibit includes a 7,200-volt electrical distribution grid featuring live electrical wires, utility poles and transformers. Using ladders, gloves, shovels and other tools in a controlled environment, trained PPL staff, wearing protective equipment, will recreate sparks, flames, smoke and crackling that occurs when those items come in contact with live electrical lines. They will also show what occurs when a tree branch and balloons come in contact with wires.

This exhibit is used to educate customers, students, first responders and the general public about the dangers associated with electricity and contact with electrical lines and components. If you are interested in attending, visit the Eastern Salisbury Fire Department Facebook page and respond “going to their event” so they can try to plan for the number attending.

As the event gets closer, refer to the Eastern Salisbury Fire Department Facebook page for confirmation due to the current health situation.

At this time, all township yard waste sites will remain closed until further notice. The township is looking into other options. In the meantime, refer to the township burning ordinance regarding the safe burning of yard materials. There have been multiple brush fires Eastern and Western Salisbury Fire Departments have responded to in the last few weeks that could have been prevented. Brush fires can spread very quickly and without regard to homes and property being damaged.

The police department is enforcing violations of the burn ordinance at this time. If you have any questions, call 610-797-1447 to speak with an officer or fire inspector.
