HORNET HAPPENINGS
Online instruction and classes for students began April 6 as the “second phase” of virtual learning. During this phase, student work will not be given grades but participation and feedback will be documented to ensure the learning process. For seniors, this work is required for meeting graduation requirements.
Assignments will be given on Mondays and due that Friday. During the week, “office hours” will be available for students to connect and ask questions and/or go over material.
The final day for the third marking period will now be scheduled for April 17 at the earliest.
Despite traditional attendance not being tracked within PowerSchool, teachers will still check on student engagement and participation in online activities. If a student fails to meet the criteria of appropriate participation and/or shows no engagement, staff and administration will be contacting said student’s parents to provide notice and support.
As of now, spring activities have not been postponed. Junior prom is still scheduled for May 16 and senior prom is still scheduled for May 22. Also, the Class of 2020 graduation ceremony will be held June 14 as of now. Staff is waiting until they absolutely have to postpone these anticipated events or until they are guided to by state and local officials.

Many events and activities arranged for the month of May are still tentatively scheduled such as the senior picnic, senior awards and the art show, among others. However, in this ever-changing climate of COVID-19, it’s important to recognize some of these events may be canceled or postponed in the near future.
