VIKING VOICES
Due to a mandate from the Diocese of Allentown, Allentown Central Catholic High School students were dismissed 11:30 a.m. March 12. ACCHS was also closed March 13 and is now remaining closed until April 6. Central did not have a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19. This dismissal was a precautionary decision made for the Diocesan schools in Lehigh and Northampton counties.
Without a doubt, the current COVID-19 pandemic has taken precedence in many aspects of our daily lives.
The mandated shutdown has made it challenging for ACCHS to achieve its goals; however in the coming weeks, Central will try their best to conduct “business as usual” and to limit the disruption to students’ education.
Our administrative team and faculty have been preparing for some time now for online instruction days.
On March 19, teachers had lessons and assignments posted to their Sapphire class pages. The learning opportunities designed by our teachers will both reinforce and extend the learning of our students. Visit the school website, acchs.info, to review all online learning information and announcements.
The College Board is canceling the May 2 SAT exam. Makeup exams for the March 14 exam (scheduled for March 28) are also canceled. The College Board will provide refunds to all students who are registered for May, whose March test centers were closed or who do not receive March scores due to irregularity. Their top priority is the health and safety of students and educators. The College Board has not yet canceled the June 6 SAT exam and will continue to assess its situation.
Due to the administration cancellations this spring, the College Board expects there will be a high demand for the June and August SAT exams, so students should re-register for June and August SAT exams as soon as possible through the College Board website.
ACCHS’s Director of College Admissions Matthew Garza has created an Instagram account to keep students informed and up-to-date about the college admissions process and other helpful tips.
