Harvin Duarte Lehigh Valley Academy
Grade: 12
Family members: Hector is my father, Ercida is my mother, and Jonas is my little brother.
Favorite subject: Science and math. I enjoy science class because I learn a lot of cool interesting things, that otherwise I do not think I would ever have found interest in learning. An example is like wood and its density, strength and how its price varies on how much planet earth still has available of it. Science class provides me with real life applications that I can use now and in the future. As for math, I also list it as one of my favorite subjects because although it can be my most challenging class at times, I have never found myself uninterested in anything with relation to it. It definitely keeps me the most focused and challenges me the most.
Activities: I am in Student Council and Science Honor Society. As a Student Council member, I represent my school and my classmates. I help to organize events and ensure that the school year is filled with activities and thing to keep my classmates interested in what school has to offer. As for Science Honor Society, we sometimes stay after school to offer aid to younger classmates who may be struggling with science. We also spoke about how our contribution to our community can help eliminate or reduce our carbon footprint and other harmful things to the earth.
Next steps: My plan is to go to college. As of now I am interested in Penn State, Fairleigh Dickinson and Rutgers University. Each of them offers something different that attracts me to them. I cannot say certainly which one I am going to, but hopefully it is one of these three.
Career goals: Ever since I was a little boy I have had a passion for cars. It might have to do with the fact that my dad is a mechanic and I was always with him when he worked on them. My career goal is to become a successful mechanical engineer and work in the automobile industry.
Hobbies: Detailing cars, going to the gym and spending time with friends.
Current job(s): I work at Giant. It is a nice part-time job that has helped me develop better time management skills. It also has helped me to meet great people that shop there and give great advice.
Volunteer/community work: I do not have a set volunteering or community work to go to, but of course if I am somewhere and I see someone in need of assistance I will stop whatever I am doing and offer them help.
Likes: Cars, traveling, driving, listening to music, going out, learning new things, having new experience, helping others, and just enjoying life to its fullest
Dislikes: Getting sick, cheese, traffic, and not having a haircut
Greatest accomplishment (so far): Out of all the questions in this profile, I think this is the hardest. I can’t really label this as my greatest achievement, but it is something I am extremely proud of myself for achieving, and that is having a strong connection with both my parents, and being able to talk to them about anything without feeling the need to hold back on things.
Advice for peers: Success comes with lots of work and effort. You can’t sit back and do nothing and expect to have things magically get done. If you have goals for yourself, you also need to set an agenda to keep those goals on track. Anything is achievable in life because we live in a place filled with opportunities, but it is up to you to go out and look for these opportunities.
Student profile subjects are selected by faculty and administration at the individual schools.
