STUDENT PROFILE - Kaitlin Borda, Liberty HS - Coordinated by Julie Swan

Grade: 12

Family members: Father, Brian Borda, mother, Stacy Borda, sister, Brianna Borda

Favorite subject: My favorite subject is actually more of a class I am taking. I am a student in Protective Services at Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School. I love this class because I learn things that pertain to my interests and will help me in my future career. Our class is based on police, fire, EMS and military work.

Activities: I am in the military and volunteer with my local police and fire department. I also am a Bethlehem Police Explorer and an enlisted soldier for the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. I am also involved with Nancy Run Volunteer Fire Company, a member of Liberty’s Key Club, practice karate at Bethlehem Karate Association and am part of my high school’s varsity field hockey and softball teams. This past summer I attended Army basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. I graduated with the second highest APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test) score in a class of 140.

Next steps: After high school, I will attend my Army AIT (Advanced Individual Training) for 11 weeks. Following that, I will attend college majoring in criminal justice.

Career goals: I hope to work as an officer for the Bethlehem Police Department.

Heroes: I am beyond thankful and grateful for those around me in these fields of work; those who work hard every day to help and protect others, who put their lives on the line and are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for others.

Hobbies: My hobbies are staying active with sports, and helping in my community.

Current job(s): I am a waitress.

Volunteer/community work: I spend a lot of my time volunteering in my community.

Likes: I love helping people. It has always been a passion of mine.

Greatest accomplishment (so far): My greatest accomplishment by far has been the completion of Army basic training. All of my life I was told I could not do it because I was female or because I was not strong enough.

Advice for peers: If you want something, go get it! Do not ever let someone tell you that you cannot do something. When you find something in life that you love, you will strive for it. It will push you to work hard and be the best version of yourself. Make your own path in life; do not strive to follow others, strive to leave a mark on the world.

Student profile subjects are selected by faculty and administration at the individual schools.
