As I sit at the computer writing my column, the coronavirus updates, cancellations and postponements are pouring in. The uncertainty of what comes next is very unsettling. What is printed below is my best attempt at current news. As my editor tells her freelance writers, check to see if an event is still on before you go out.

The Lower Macungie Library will be closed through the end of March.

All children’s programs have been canceled through March 28. Adult programs have been canceled through the end of March. The Great Decisions series has been postponed until later in the year. No items will be due March 14 through April 1.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club will meet 10:30 a.m. April 1 to discuss “A Spool of Blue Thread”? by Anne Tyler. The book for May 6 is “Sanditon”? by Jane Austen.

The next Friends of the Library meeting is 10 a.m. March 21 in the library. Spring book sale donations will be accepted at the library through March 28. The library will not accept textbooks, VHS and cassette tapes, magazines, outdated medical or travel books and dirty or damaged books.

The spring book sale dates are member preview night 5-7:30 p.m. April 30; public sale 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 1-2.

Eyer Middle School has postponed the remaining shows of “Disney’s Mulan Jr.”?

The Emmaus High School production of “Hello, Dolly!”? has been postponed.

The Lower Macungie Middle School production of “Emma! A Pop Musical”? has been postponed.

Concordia Lutheran Preschool will hold its annual community Easter Egg Hunt 9:30 a.m. April 4 with registration starting 9 a.m. There will be a pancake breakfast immediately following in the fellowship hall. Freewill offerings will be accepted.

There will be Breakfast with the Easter Bunny 9-10:30 a.m. April 4 at the Lower Macungie Community Center. Advance registration is required.

Habitat Lehigh Valley ReStore will have a truck available at the community center to collect unwanted but new and gently used furniture, appliances and building supplies for resale 9 a.m. to noon April 18.

The Lower Macungie ?Lazers? Swim Team signups for children ages 5-18 will be held 5-7 p.m. April 16 at the community center. The season runs May 28 to July 18 and a Lower Macungie Township Pool membership is required. For more information, go to www.leaguelineup.com/lmlazers.

Summer playground signups will take place 6-7:30 p.m. April 22 at the community center. The program runs 9 a.m. to noon weekdays June 29 to Aug. 14 for children ages 6-11 years.

There will be a free document shredding event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 25 at the Lower Macungie Township Municipal Building parking lot. There is a limit of four boxes of identity theft sensitive materials. The event is sponsored by state Sen. Pat Browne, R-16th, State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-134th and Lower Macungie Township.

Lower Macungie offers garden plot rentals on Bogie Avenue only this year. Plots are available to rent on a first come, first served basis. Contact the community center for more information.

The Bartholomew Center for Preservation of Lower Macungie History, located at Camp Olympic, is open 1-4 p.m. every Sunday unless there is an event elsewhere.

The Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Club meets noon April 7 and 21 at the community center. After a business meeting, members play bingo or card games.

The community center will be closed through March 29. Class participants and renters will be contacted with more information. Staff will be available by phone 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 610-966-6924. Updates will also be posted on Facebook and www.lowermac.com.

The community center offers a number of activities. Adult classes include belly dancing, card making, baking, writing, meal prep and Latin partner dance. Adult exercise classes include tai chi, yoga, Pilates, barre, metabolic conditioning and balance. Youth classes include Safesitter, Kindermusik, multi-sport skills, toddlers and tutus, pre-ballet, soccer, and cooking.

The winter yard waste hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday through April. Yard waste permits are required for dropoff.

The Ancient Oaks Women’s Organization will meet 6:30 p.m. April 1 at St. Paul’s UCC in Trexlertown for a covered dish dinner. Each person should bring three bags of wrapped candy to stuff Easter eggs. The Easter Egg Hunt will be held 2 p.m. April 4 at Church Lane Park.
