LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

EASTERN SALISBURY COLUMN

Life these days is a little chaotic and stressful for everyone, everywhere. We are all supposed to be practicing “social distancing” and we have basically cleared out stores of all necessities. That being said, in case you have been under a rock somewhere, currently all Salisbury Township schools are closed until March 27, when they will re-evaluate and determine when it is safe to re-open for students and staff.

As a result, all activities are also canceled or will hopefully be rescheduled. Please note if something was scheduled, refer to the district website before assuming it is on as scheduled – you know what happens when you assume.

As of this date, the following event is still on as planned. Eastern Salisbury Fire Department will host a PPL Line Line Electrical Safety Exhibit 6:30 p.m. April 20.

The event will be held at Salisbury High School with a rain location of Eastern Salisbury Fire Department. The exhibit includes a 7,200-volt electrical distribution grid that features live electrical wires, utility poles, and transformers.

Using ladders, gloves, shovels and other tools in a controlled environment, trained PPL staff wearing protective equipment will recreate sparks, flames, smoke and crackling that occurs when those items come on contact with live electrical lines.

They will also show what occurs when a tree branch and balloons come in contact with wires.

This exhibit is used to educate customers, students, first responders and the general public about the dangers associated with electricity and contact with electrical lines and components.

If you are interested in attending, visit the Eastern Salisbury Fire Department Facebook page and RSVP so they can try to plan for the number attending.

As the event gets closer, please refer to the Eastern Salisbury Fire Department Facebook page for confirmation due to the current health situation.

Since the world could use a little positivity now, I leave you with a few inspirational quotes that I’ve been focusing on for some positivity:

“The only order in the universe is just a cycle of calm and chaos.” Toba Beta

“Act like what you do makes a difference. It does.” William James

“Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope.” Martin Luther King Jr.

“It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.” Epictetus

And one final note... don’t forget to wash your hands!
