Parkland’s school board recently approved Angel Green as assistant director of business administration to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Frank Pearn.
Green’s most recent position was director of business administration for the Blue Mountain School District, Orwigsburg, Schuylkill County.
She earned a Bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and is a certified public accountant.
Director of Business Administration John Vignone said Green’s expertise in accounting and her experience as a school district auditor will contribute significant assets to the district.
In other business, the board approved purchase of five 72-passenger buses from the Wolfington Body Company at a cost of $460,880.
The district received a trade-in value of $6,025 for five buses.
In honor of Staff Recognition Week, the board approved breakfast for all district employees during the first week in May at a total cost of $3,150.
Looking ahead to the next school term, the board approved the 2020-21 district calendar.
The first day of school for students will be on Sept. 8 and the last will be June 17, 2021.
Children have 183 days and teachers have 190 days.
Parkland designates five official local school district holidays which are the Friday after Thanksgiving, Dec. 24, Dec. 31, Presidents Day Monday, and the Friday before the spring holiday.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Rod Troutman explained these five official local holidays may not be used for any makeup days. Schools will always be closed on those particular times.
