Emergency Management Coordinator Sherry Graver was the first speaker at the Washington Township March 3 supervisors’ meeting.

She brought along papers to be posted about how people can keep themselves safe from the coronavirus.

She said it is a living, breathing document from the county. Emergency management people and first responders are spreading the word.

Township workers are trying to arrange contacts with neighboring townships that would be useful if the virus spreads locally.

The Centers for Disease Control is keeping records and forwarding the information.

In other matters, Two junkyard licenses were issued by the board. They are for Siberini and Son Container Service, 2861 Cemetery Street, and Layal Hanna, 4163 Best Station Road.

Friedens Fire Company received the $24,000 donation that had been had been previously approved.

Permission was given for an advertisement for work on roads. Paving will be done on Railroad Street, Paintmill Road including the big dip when turning onto the road, Hillside, Woodside and Eagle roads, Harbor Lane and Coral Court. Seal coating will be done on Walnut Street, High Hill and Old Grange roads and Leah Drive.

Friedens Athletic Association’s Nate Stettler asked if there were any ordinances the group should be aware of before the new baseball season opens April 1.

The township has worked on picnic tables at the fields and they are ready to go. The association is tentatively planning a parade to open the season next year.

To get more use from the fields they want to use lights for a 7-9 p.m. T-ball game Fridays.

Resident Ed Ziegler suggested the township should have a representative on the sewer authority. Grease has been dumped into the sewer and creates more sludge to be hauled away and consequently more expense.
