LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Previewing spring

A sigh of relief could be felt throughout the school body March 6, as students and faculty were finally able to close their books on a long and grueling winter season and could finally relax and recharge with their much-needed week-long spring break.

That week has now been extended by nearly 10 full days, as the infamous coronavirus has led to school closings across the state. Fortunately (or maybe not), academics will be able to continue through virtual school until hopefully, students and faculty can return to campus safely to kick off the spring season.

These last few months of the school year will be fueled by the momentum of the successful winter season.

In sports, the Moravian Academy girls basketball team made history, finishing the season with a record of 19-9 and placing second in both league and district playoffs. Additionally, the Lions also earned their first-ever birth in the state tournament. While their season ended on an unfortunate loss against Old Forge HS, the Lions have made an impression on the school’s history for years to come.

Moving along from the indoor courts and onto the outdoor ones, you’ll find the reigning District XI champion boys’ tennis team gearing up for what aims to be another successful season. The tennis team has already made a name for itself, being named state champions in 2001 and 2015 and doubles state champions in 2001, 2005 and 2014. Maintaining their status as undefeated league champions, however, won’t be an easy feat. Fortunately, the boys are up to the challenge, and the student and faculty body here at Moravian are eager for what’s to come.

In terms of the arts, not enough can be said about Moravian Academy theater’s outstanding performance, “State Fair.” The exceptional show gave audiences a full immersion to the grounds of the Iowa State Fair through a story of romance and family.

Now, the cast, crew and orchestra members all have their sights set on the Freddy Awards in hopes that their exceptional talent, hard work and dedication will be recognized among the local high school performing arts programs.

Only a few months remain in the 2019-20 school year. For some, summer can’t come fast enough, but for the graduating class, it seems as though the year has gone by in a flash. Now, thoughts of the upperclassmen are consumed with final exams and projects, prom, graduation, and the unavoidable saying goodbye to Moravian Academy. While it’s a daunting reality for some, the years of thorough and one-of-a-kind preparation Moravian Academy has instilled in its students provides the confidence to go out and succeed in their path of life.
