County executive urges N. Whitehall residents to complete census forms

Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong attended the March North Whitehall supervisors meeting to urge the board to encourage residents to complete and return census forms.

Failing to return census information will cause the township to lose approximately $2,093 per person each year.

This is money that could be used for infrastructure, grants, fire companies, and more.

Armstrong also noted Lehigh County is in the top five counties in the state for the amount of land preserved for agriculture.

Some 300 farms encompassing 25,000 acres are being preserved, according to Armstrong.

In other matters, two Boy Scouts - Matt Muthard and Matt Weber - attended the meeting.

Muthard is working toward his Citizen in the Community badge and Weber attended for his communications badge.

The Lehigh County Authority forwarded a request for a waiver on the planning process to erect some structures on its property.

Planning was done previously and building permits could be acquired.

Supervisors approved the request.

A submission was made to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for a 50/50 grant to update the township’s open space and recreation plan.

The Junior Response Course, sponsored by the fire companies and NOVA, in partnership with Pennsylvania State Police and South Whitehall Township, is scheduled for June 25 and 26.

Supervisors issued a proclamation honoring Frank Alexa for his many years of service to the Northern Valley Ambulance Corps.
