Q. Who are the members of your family: parents, siblings and pets?

A. I live with my mom and dad, Traci and Kurt Koehler. I have one older sister, Kira, who is a junior at Dartmouth College. I have two dogs: a 14-year-old Jack Russel (Kiwi) and a 9-month-old German Shorthair Pointer (Kobbler).

Q. What do you most enjoy about being a senior at Emmaus High School?

A. I am looking forward to moving on to college. I have not decided on which college I will attend, so I am especially excited to hear back on all of the admission decisions at the end of March. Regardless of where I will end up, I am excited for the next step.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. I enjoy learning about anything that pertains to geography. I have found that I am most interested in obscure areas of the world that are otherwise overlooked. By extension, I am similarly interested in linguistics. This year, I am taking Spanish AP which is challenging, but I find it rewarding to apply the language in the real world.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. 2019 AP Scholar with Distinction, 2019 National Merit Scholarship Commended Scholar, National Spanish Examination: Bronze Award and 2019 National Marine Youth Physical Fitness Meet: Ranked third in the U.S.

Q. What are your favorite extracurricular activities?

A. As the president/captain of the fitness team, I have always enjoyed training and competing alongside my teammates. The 2020 season began in early January and runs through the end of May. This year, we will be competing in six meets. Thanks to the leadership of our new head coach, Lenni Maguire, we will be organizing and hosting a meet at EHS March 14. In addition to the fitness team, my time on the PA Mock Trial Competition team has been a great experience. This year we will be competing at the Northampton County Courthouse. Presenting in a courthouse before a county judge is a unique and valuable opportunity.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. After high school, I plan on getting a bachelor’s degree in business or economics. I would like to work in a corporate setting – in either finance or consulting – before going back to school for my MBA.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. I often find it most challenging to take time out each day for non-academic and non-critical activities. For example, I think that spending time outdoors is incredibly important for just about anyone; however, finding time to do so is easily forgotten or disregarded for more immediate concerns and commitments.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered as a dependable and consistent person. I hope my friends and family can always feel that they can rely on me.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. Of all my peers and family, I admire my sister, Kira, the most. Being three years older than me, Kira has always served as my greatest role model. Kira’s social, athletic and academic success inspires me to attain similar achievements.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. If I could give my peers one piece of advice it would be to live in the moment by reducing the consumption of unnecessary media.
