The Saucon Valley High School stage welcomes an indomitable matchmaker with “Hello, Dolly!,” 7 p.m. March 5, 6, 7 and 2 p.m. March 8, auditorium, Saucon Valley High School, 2100 Polk Valley Road, Hellertown.
The “meddling” Dolly Gallagher Levi travels to Yonkers, N.Y., in search of a match for wealthy tightwad Horace Vandergelder in the iconic musical which premiered on Broadway in 1964.
Chad A. Miller is producer, director and vocal director, assisted by choreographer and assistant director Kimberly Tassinaro, technical director Patrick Mertz, and pit orchestra director Michael Marini.
“Hello Dolly!,” based on Thornton Wilder’s “The Matchmaker,” has music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and book by Michael Stewart.
Musical numbers include “Ribbons Down My Back,” “Before the Parade Passes By,” “It Only Takes a Moment,” “It Takes a Woman” and “Hello, Dolly.”
The Broadway production received 10 Tony Awards of 11 Tony nominations. The 1978 and 1995 Broadway revivals each received one Tony nomination. The 2017 Broadway revival scored four Tonys out of 10 Tony nominations.
