Emmaus first responders honored at award ceremony

Emmaus Emergency Services Director and Fire Chief John Price, recognized Emmaus fire and ambulance first responders at the first annual emergency services recognition banquet Feb. 22 at the Emmaus Fire Company #1 social hall at South Sixth and Broad streets, Emmaus.

Jason Jesmain was named 2019 firefighter of the year.

Bryan Nelson was named 2019 paramedic of the year for the Emmaus Ambulance Corps.

Rebeckah Waterman was recognized as EMT of the year.

Unit citations were also awarded for outstanding response to a fire Oct. 24, 2019, at Powder Mill apartments, Emmaus, where 10 people were sent to the hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation, and for a mutual aid response to Heather Glen Senior Living facility at 415 Blue Barn Road, in Upper Macungie Township Sept. 22, 2019. Eighty-two residents and staff were evacuated from the facility during the fire.

Price said the recognition banquet was the first of what he hopes to make an annual event.
